Opening of the “Czech in Indonesia” Exhibition to Support Czech-Indonesian Relations in Surabaya

In the spirit of cultural and educational partnership between the Czech Republic and Indonesia, the “Czech in Indonesia” exhibition was officially opened this week in Surabaya. This unique exhibition, which has already visited several major cities in Indonesia, is now making its fourth stop. The event is hosted by the Institute of Technological Studies Surabaya (ITS), symbolically confirming the long-term partnership between the two countries and highlighting the importance of cultural and economic cooperation. The opening ceremony was attended by Czech diplomats led by the Czech Ambassador to Indonesia, Jaroslav Doleček, local officials, representatives of the Czech-Indonesian expatriate association Bohemindo, and the academic community.
The exhibition, which took over two years to prepare, maps over 100 years of Czechoslovak activities in Indonesia. It features more than 45 panels divided into thematic sections such as diplomacy, culture, environment, education, trade, and more.
During the opening, there was a discussion about the possibilities for further cooperation in the areas of sustainability, education, tourism, and technology. The Mayor of Surabaya emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting green tourism and ecological initiatives, which are becoming key areas for collaboration with Czech partners.
The exhibition also includes presentations of significant Czech companies and projects operating in Indonesia. It will soon be enriched by a new non-commercial project, the Bohem Chatbot Traveler – an innovative application that uses modern technology to guide Czechs and Slovaks through Indonesia. This project, initiated by the Czech-Indonesian expatriate association Bohemia Indonesia, brings Indonesian culture and natural beauty closer to Czech tourists and represents another example of the close cultural ties between the two countries.
The event has received significant media attention, with five different Indonesian news outlets covering it on the first day alone. The exhibition will be open to the public for several weeks, offering visitors not only a tour of the exhibits but also the opportunity to make connections with Czech and Indonesian experts in the fields of tourism, education, technology, and more.
