How to enjoy the high season in Bali

Summer is the main season for Bali and the island is full of tourists. According to Bali’s statistical agency, the number of tourists has set a new record.

In the first half of 2024, Bali visited 2 911 155 foreigners, surpassing the record from 2019. The majority of tourists are coming from Australia, India, China, USA and Singapore.

If you are traveling in high season, be patient. Whether it’s getting between places or visiting a famous tourist attraction, expect to take more time than expected. Don’t stress about traffic jams and have time reserve. If you don’t like crowded tourist spots, try to find alternative attractions that are not so famous. Alternatively, you can go to places which tend to be less busy. Bali still offers a lot of quiet places where there are not so many tourists. Just head to the north or east of Bali where you’ll find plenty of beautiful spots.

As the number of tourists increases, so do the number of accidents, whether it is scooter accidents or accidents at well known tourist attractions. Always remember that Indonesia is not Europe and the approach to the security here is quite lax.

The accidents are a reminder that caution is in order when visiting natural attractions. Waterfalls, hiking up volcanoes and beautiful beaches offer beatutiful scenery, but access to these places is often quite difficult. Approach to security measures is much looser in Indonesia so you have to be extremely careful and listen to the instructions of your guide.
